Motorola Moto G vs Samsung Galaxy Core

Motorola Moto G was made available in India exclusively on Flipkart on Feb 6, 2014 priced Rs. 12,499 (8 GB variant) and Rs. 13,999 (16 GB variant). Meanwhile you can also get yourself the popular Samsung Galaxy Core which was unveiled last year (Q2) and priced Rs. 12,999.

While the Moto G has got huge initial response from the customers, the Galaxy Core doesn’t disappoint us either. So, lets compare the features and specifications of these two smartphones thereby concluding which is better.

Design and Display

The Moto G has got a curvy design with changeable back panels and is most likely to appeal you when compared to the same old traditional design of the Galaxy core.

The Moto G measures 129.9 x 65.9 x 11.6 mm and weighs 143 g where as the Samsung Galaxy Core measures 129.3 x 67.6 x 9 mm and weighs 140 g. The former is a bit heavier because it has got a slightly bigger display, battery and design. The Moto G sports a 4.5 inch HD display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. On the other hand, the Galaxy core comes with a 4.3 inch display (480 x 800 pixels resolution)

Camera

Both the smartphones has got a 5 mega pixels rear camera with AF and LED flash but the Galaxy core can capture videos at 480 x 800 pixels resolution where as the Moto G can capture HD videos. Also the Moto G has got a better front facing camera (1.3 MP) when compared to that of Galaxy core (0.3 MP) which makes the Moto G a better choice, camera features wise.

Memory

Here the Galaxy core has an edge over Moto G as it comes with an internal memory of 8 GB which can be expanded up to 64 GB using a micro SD card where as Moto G comes in 8 GB and 16 GB variants (no room to expand).

Performance

The Moto G comes equipped with a 1.2 GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU coupled with 1 GB RAM and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (guaranteed upgrade to Android KitKat) where as the Galaxy core comes with a 1.2 GHz dual core CPU combined with 1 GB RAM and running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

Connectivity

Both the smartphones feature various connectivity options like the support for Dual SIM, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, Micro USB and GPS.

Battery Backup

The Samsung Galaxy Core comes packed with a Li-Ion 1800 mAh battery providing talk times up to 14 h (2G)/9 h (3G) and stand by times up to 500 h (2G)/300 h (3G) while the Motorola Moto G comes packed with a 2070 mAh battery claiming to provide run time of up to 24 h on mixed usage. However, the company has not elaborated more on this.

Conclusion

No doubt the Moto G is much better than the Samsung Galaxy core in terms of design, display, camera and performance. The only edge that the Galaxy core has over Moto G is a room to expand its internal memory.
